The memorial to Admiral Sir Bertram Ramsay at Dover Castle. Ramsay commanded the naval units during Operation Dynamo, the evacutation of Dunkerque. Later as Eisenhower’s naval commander he brought the Allies back to Normandy in 1944.
Ramsay's memorial was quiet, unassuming (for an Admiral) and seemed to be recent. Ramsay died in 1945 when his plane crashed in France. It's likely he didn't become as famous as his peers in the Briitsh Army and Air Force because of his premature death.
You can't see it from the 2004 photo of the memorial, but there’s a map of the Engllish Channel, marking his achievements in saving the army and liberating France. Right-click and choose "view image" to enlarge the image above of the memorial.
