Here's another 100 photos, scattered throughout the Wake, Tarawa, Okinawa and Iwo Jima photo galleries (among others) that have been seriously updated. Most of these images are seriously updated compared to their National Archives notations, which I took at face value when I started this site in 1999. More than 600 out of 2000 photos have been researched and updated since June 2006 as to their historical details. Only 1400 more to go, and then we'll start building an interactive keyword-searchable image archive!

I recently attended the abortive move of the Intrepid Museum from Manhattan to Bayonne, NJ, but the ship only moved 15 feet before she dug in her stern. Here's some photos of the World War II Essex-class carrier refusing to leave her home of 25 years.

More updated images with expanded captions. Another 32 images, mostly in Tarawa and Emperor Hirohito and well as other areas around the site.

Recovering after an internet outage that prevented updates, we will have a number of really interesting updates this month. Today 25 more updated images, mostly in the Solomons and Japanese Surrender image galleries. These photos have updated information on who is depicted, what unit, and place and date. I'm really excited about how much more information I was able to find for a lot of them, enjoy.
We're about a third of the way through in updating the photo annotations. Once we've completed that, we will have a new interface that will allow keyword searches of our photo database. I was hoping to have that in January 2007, but it's more likely to happen next summer at the earliest.
