Outside of the Annexe level, this sign would direct ambulances to the hospital. During a rescue at sea or an airplane crash, the survivors would be brought here from all over the area. Often they wouldn’t know this hospital existed until they woke up in the recovery room. Right-click and choose "view image" to enlarge.

Some of the civilian casualties form Dover were treated in the hospital at Dover Castle. Here is a photo of the damage to a Dover Church bombed in 1917, then rebuilt, then bombed again in 1940.
