Gabriel Byrne and Mira Sorvino star in another love story about two western journalists that are trapped in the siege of Leningrad in 1941. IMdB’s plot description, written by the director, make it seem really over the top romantic. I have trouble believing all these people were worried about romance when they were starving to death.

Molly Ringwald (I don't think the movie’s named after her) and David Aaron Baker star in this melodrama about an English and an American girl getting to be friends during World War II. I'm not familiar with the American Girl series, but it is based on the popular series of books for young girls. Look for tragedy and the horrors of war in a bloodless, uplifting way for young children.

This project was announced in 2004, but never went anywhere — Morgan Freeman and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar are co-producing a script by Gregory Allen Howard about the black segregated 761st tank battalion in combat in Europe at the end of World War II. They were the original “Black Panthers.” I doubt that it will be made as nothing has been heard since 2004, but anything can happen in Hollywood.

This Hungarian production is being hailed for its emotional impact on audiences. Based on Nobel laureate Imre Kertesz’s novel about Hungarian Jews during the Holocaust, it follows the story of a young boy left behind after the liquidation of the Budapest Ghetto and his incarceration in Auschwitz.

The campaign in the Marshalls was a necessary stepping stone in the battle for the Central Pacific. Eniwetok was a central target, with 3,500 Japanese and Korean defenders. Landings were made on February 17, 1944.

The deteriorating situation in France left the British Expeditionary Force seriously compromised. French General Maxime Weygand”s plan to create a defensive line on the Somme was impossible; The Germans, using superior tactics and communications but not equipment, had high morale and were advancing faster than the French high Command could draw up defensive plans.
