Casualties from USS Bunker Hill (CV-17) are transferred to USS Wilkes-Barre (CL-103) via breaches buoy the day after Bunker Hill was struck by two kamikaze planes. Wilkes-Barre came alongside and assisted with firefighting, operating her fire hoses on Bunker Hill‘s after flight deck. She then took aboard the carrier‘s wounded. Note damage to the carrier‘s 40 mm Bofors gun gallery in the right center of the picture. | |
