| Sturmgeschutz III ausf F/8, formally designated Gepanzerter Selbstfahrlafette fur Sturmgeschutz mit 7.5cm Sturmkanone 40 Ausf F/8 / Sd.Kfz.142/1 (Self-Propelled Anti-Tank Assault Gun with 75 mm Assault Cannon model 40). The suspension is covered with Schurzen (skirting) to protect the road wheels and treads from Soviet anti-tank rifles. 334 StuG III ausf f/8s were produced in 1942 and issued to existing Sturmabteilungs (Assault Gun Battalions) to replace combat losses. The StuK40 L/48 gun was effective against tanks, infantry and fortifications. | |
